Kitchen Renovation on a Budget

Our kitchen was the ugliest room in the house and the most work to renovate. It had fiesta orange walls and this ugly gray tile that we couldn't wait to rip up. Since the house was a foreclosure, there was some paint on the floor and graffiti on the walls left by the previous owners (thanks guys!).

I love all of the beautiful kitchens I see on Pinterest with marble countertops and huge islands but we're ballin' on a budget, so we went with laminate countertops and painted the existing cabinets. We added crown molding to the top of the cabinets and oil rubbed bronze hardware to make the cabinets look high-end. It turned out better than we expected! We love our kitchen!

I'd like to eventually add some artwork to the wall where the table is (Aimee Weaver Designs has something I have my eye on), and I'm still looking for a kitchen rug. I have the hardest time with rugs! Mostly because all of the ones that I want are too expensive. LOL! I will let you know when I find the one!

Entryway

Here is my entryway. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. We added the french doors. They lead to the playroom. I like the look they give the entryway and they are great for hiding toys in the playroom. I don't want the first thing people to see when they walk in my home to be a messy playroom.

I got my piano from craigslist for FREE! It's over 100 years old and sounds great! I plan on painting it at some point. I want to make sure it doesn't devalue the piano first.

I am in love with our Lucas Home sign. I think it's the perfect piece of art for people to be greeted by when they enter our home. I bought it from Aimee Weaver Designs. I love her work and definitely plan on buying more.

Dining Room Transformation

My dining room was inspired by a picture I saw on Pinterest (here). The rest of my house was designed by my own imagination. However for my dining room, I was so in love with the room I saw on Pinterest, I had to have it.

The dining room before I decorated it was SO UGLY! It had burgundy walls and the most horrendous chandelier. This room was in need of a makeover very badly! Painting it was almost healing. LOL!

  • Dining table, chairs, floating buffet, and curtains are from IKEA
  • Bubble Light is from CB2
  • Mirror is from Pottery Barn
  • Bamboo Chairs are from Ballard Design

I am absolutely obsessed with my Ballard Design bamboo chairs. They were actually my mom's but she gave them to me because I love them so much. I haven't done much with them yet but I plan on reupholstering the cushions and adding some cute throw pillows.

A Bed Fit For A King & Queen

We wanted our bedroom to be our little oasis, the place where we go to reconnect and relax at the end of the day. I wanted it to feel luxurious and have some bling but not be girly.

  • We made the canopy out of PVC pipe (you can find the tutorial here
  • Chandelier is from Lowes
  • Bedding is from Pottery Barn
  • Curtains, Table Lamps, and Chairs are from Target
  • Side Tables are from Pier1
  • Bedroom Set is from Ashley Furniture
  • Paint color is Benjamin Moore Barren Plain

I'm still not finished with our room. I need to add some more decorative items to our side tables and set up our little sitting area. I will post an update when it's done.

Staircase Remodel

Our stairs were covered in this really ugly carpet. We knew it had to go but we had a hard time deciding what to do. We really liked the look of hardwood stairs but they dirty easily and can be slippery. Plus they seemed like a lot of work to install. We didn't like the look of fully carpeted stairs, so we decided to do a little of both.

My husband installed new risers and treads on the last four steps, and he added a new banister. He painted and stained them and then we hired someone to install the carpet. We are very happy with how they turned out. My husband did an amazing job! Our stairs now have an updated look but are comfortable and kid/pet friendly.

|| HELLO ||

Almost 2 years ago my husband and I bought our first house. It was a foreclosure so it needed some work but we were looking forward to making it our own. Since then we have been renovating and decorating it. I decided to start a blog to post pictures of our progress.

Designing my house has made me realize my passion for decorating. I am hoping to become an interior decorator in the near future. Until then, I'm going to continue to decorate my house, my friends' houses, and blogging my heart out.
